Yesterday a friend mentioned to me that she'd seen my work for sale somewhere recently, but she couldn't remember where. After half a minute of puzzling she remembered that it was at Harrowset Hall Emporium here in Dunedin, a lovely wee shop specialising in "shabby chic" homeware & linen. I was gobsmacked! I was even further gobsmacked to learn that the work in question was a set of three watercolours depicting different arrangements of pears, & painted by me several years ago. I'd gotten them framed in hopes of selling them, had been hopelessly unsuccessful with that, and had finally given them away to the school fair a couple of years ago. Could they really now be for sale at one of my favourite shops? I had to see this for myself....
So at lunchtime today I slunk into Harrowset to have a look. Poked around for a bit, couldn't see them, though I did find plenty of other bits & pieces that I'd happily have taken home with me had I had any money! Did I mention I love this shop?.....anyway, I was about to give up and leave when I spotted them - my paintings! Tucked tastefully into a wee corner, amongst some scrummy cushions & nic nacs! I was so excited! When the owner asked me if I needed any help, I introduced myself, told her I had painted those paintings, and would she mind if I took a photo? She was lovely, very complimentary about my artistic skills, and perfectly happy for me to snap away...
So here is the evidence - my work in actual proper shop!
And here's what the shop looks like:
That's Harrowset Hall Emporium, Princes St, Dunedin. Go there!!
